Rock and Roll

Speaking of helping people accomplish goals...

My business partner (who is an awesome musician), just got sponsorship to go to VH1's Rock & Roll Fantasy Camp at Woodstock.

After training with some serious legends, she gets to open for Blood, Sweat and Tears, The Family Stone and a few other heavy rock hitters. In fact, she's being interviewed by one of the local papers sometime next week.

She leaves on August 12. Meanwhile, we've been running a fundraiser to help send her--the sponsorship covers the cost of the camp, but not the travel costs. Take a look at the link: http://davasykes.bbnow.org/ and watch her video EPK on the "About Us" page to get a better idea of her music. Feel free to pass the link along--I'm always about supporting people's big dreams!

Where does the time go?

So aside from eating my way through Item #160-- Tasting all of the flavors at G'town Cupcakes (today's random sampling were Mint Julep and Caramel Apple), what have I been doing?

1. Looking for a PR job. My job is moving to Kansas soon and it's time I put this Master's degree to work.

2. Trying to find some planning time. I've been working with some freelance clients and putting together resumes (for other people) so it's been busy lately, but I am NOT by any means complaining--All of these activities/efforts are going towards the consulting business I've been working on with my business partner. Good stuff!

3. Trying to find some vacation time. Sigh! I have a bunch of hours on the books, it's just finding time, energy and funding to actually go somewhere. I deserve some R&R, but alas no rest yet for the weary.

4. Figuring out what goal to tackle next. I mean it's literally been 2 months since the last accomplishment and I try to do a minimum of three per year, so I have to make it a fun one...

Meanwhile...

Is anyone else accomplishing anything or do anything fun this summer?

Update--Item #4

GTFOH...so I get an email today saying I have a login and password to try and get a ticket for the Space Shuttle Atlantis launch which is now on July 8!!!

I signed up for the pool on a whim thinking that it would already be sold out.

So on Wednesday morning I have to go ahead and attempt to purchase a ticket starting at 9 am. I have no clue how I'm getting to Florida...lol.

Anyone want to come pick me up? I'll buy an extra ticket! ;)

Item #4 Scratched ?

Sadly I think I'm going to have to take an item off the list--

Item #4-- see a space shuttle launch.

So I heard this morning that the very LAST space shuttle launch EVER is next month. I knew they'd shut down the program, but I didn't realize how close the end was. Space Shuttle Atlantis is due to launch in July and that is the end.

Unless I can pull a miracle off and make it to Florida, I'm going to have to retire #4 on the list.

Salute--Memorial Day, Off List

I got to do something very cool this morning that's off the list but totally list worthy--

This morning I was helping set up for band that was playing at the US Navy Memorial. While we were there they started putting the flags up and one of them got tangled--so I went to help and ended up raising the Navy Seal Flag just before the wreath laying ceremony!

How cool is that?

What a way to kick off Memorial Day weekend.

New SWEET goal!

So I decided today to add a little of sweetness to my to do list...

I am a HUGE fan of Georgetown Cupcakes-- you may know the place from the show "DC Cupcakes" on TLC.

I go there at least once a week with my co-worker and stand in line behind tourists who insist on snapping pictures of...people standing in line, but admittedly these are some REALLY scrumptious cupcakes. I've yet to try a flavor I didn't like.

So my new "to-do" item is to try all 70+ flavors.

Almost...

I'm about 2 months out from getting my Master's--which is definitely in my TOP 10--and also the reason why I've been neglecting this blog, which happens to be my baby, but...I figured I'd post a quick check in just to let people know I'm still working on it. :)

Will return in a few weeks with updates. Meanwhile... work your dreams!

No Surrender

It's very weird.

This particular entry is probably going to sound more along the lines of one of my personal blogs, but it relates to TTDBYD.

I realize it's a new year and typically with that everyone feels like they need to make some momentous life change. I get like that too, but in changing things the end result is in theory supposed to be for the better.

Twice today, I've found out that a friend (two different people I mean) has given up something that is of significant importance to them and in both cases it seems it was because they became disillusioned--either with people or the process--and let that deter them from doing something they loved and were enthusiastic about.

Now, I am one who truly knows about letting that kind of thing get to me. I'm guilty on occasion of that, but then I take a step back, reassess my situation and go from there and I hope that both of my friends can do that--otherwise two talents are going to go to waste.

I say that to say--now, especially NOW is NOT the time to give up on accomplishing your goals, dreams or whatever it is you're trying to do. In fact now is the time to go harder, dig deeper and push yourself farther.

I'm ready. What about you?
